Flowers for Mother’s Day

Sunday 10th March 2024

Local flowers for local mothers! We believe that a floral gift should be strictly seasonal and that is why we create our Mothers Day Collection from those plants that are flowering in the garden at this time of year. So on these pages, you won’t find a rose, or a lily or a carnation. (They are summer flowers !) But you will find a selection of Spring beauties - beautiful bulbs, hellebores, flowering currant and lots of emerging foliage - Scottish natives like bright green hawthorn, beech and birch.

In our own garden, we are very keen to encourage biodiversity - providing lots of habitats and food supplies for all kinds of wee bugs and beasties. We want to spread the message that if you grow a variety of flowers in your garden, then your plot will become a gourmet restaurant for all types of interesting species. So with every order, we enclose a complimentary bunch of aconite tubers, all ready for planting in a shady corner. These cheery yellow woodland flowers are an absolute delight in late winter and on warm days, they open up so bees can feast on the pollen and nectar.

Choose from a “Muckle bunch o’ flooers”, a Mother’s Day Heart, a Spring Quartet, or our ever popular gift certificate. Or for the ultimate floral treat, why not bring your Mum up to The Moorhouse on the Sunday 10th March 2024, when Bridget will be holding a special workshop.

A muckle bunch o’ FLooers frae the gairden

That sums up this freshly picked bunch. We offer this popular Mothers Day treat again in 2024. £30.

A Mother’s Day Heart

If you are the kind that seeks out bespoke gifts, then our floral hearts might just be what you are looking for. We really think that these would qualify for the ‘not on the High Street’ category. And if you have them, you may even make your siblings a wee bit green with envy! Each heart is created on a wire frame with a moss base that keeps the flowers and foliage fresh and green. (For many, patches of moss on the lawn are a bit of a nuisance, but not for us. We like to be self sufficient here, so we pop out with the rake and gather a few handfuls each time we create a heart). Then we bind on sprigs of foliage and tiny flowers to create the finished design. We offer three sizes; small ( 12 inch, 30cm) for £30, medium (15 inch, 38cm) for £50, large (18inch, 45cm) for £70. Each heart is presented in a gift box, all ready for your Mum to hang on her front door, gate, fence or a favourite tree. And if you won’t be with her on the 10th, let us know what message you would like us to include.

A spring quartet

Those of you who are avid listeners of Classic FM will no doubt have witnessed the musical delights of the string quartet - four players in perfect harmony. In the same vein, we bring you, not a string quartet but a spring quartet - four gorgeous seasonal posies combined together in a wee wooden crate. Each quartet is created from stems that are handpicked from our cutting garden. Contains four spring posies, each in a traditional honey jar, and combined together in a wooden crate. P.S. In the spirit of recycling we’ll pop in some lids for the jars so when the rhubarb is ready or the goosegogs are ripe, your dear Mother will be all set to get creative in the kitchen! Spicy chutneys and delicious preserves spring to mind. Anybody for rhubarb and ginger jam - truly tasteful.

Four honey jar posies, all in a wooden crate approx 35cm long £35

Gift Certificate

There’s no doubt that the weather in March can be quite fickle. Indeed, we remember 2013. Throughout March, it was freezing cold here with tons and tons of snow. So it’s understandable if your Mother is not too keen on spending lots of time outdoors so early in the year. However, we thought that, come the warmer months, she might like to come up to The Moorhouse and actually cut some flowers herself. Even better, she could bring a friend along too. So we offer a ‘Cut your own bucket of flowers’ Gift Certificate. Your Mum just needs to tell us when she would like to come, (probably best from Maytime onwards.)£40 for two people to cut a bucket of flowers each.

MOTHERS DAY WORKSHOP, Sunday 10th March at 10am

Should your Mum fancy a couple of hours of floral craft, then we offer the perfect gift. Bring her up to The Moorhouse for a special workshop with Bridget, We’ll be creating a gorgeous, spring arrangement for her to take home. Friends and family welcome too and remember we always have time for a tea or coffee and one of Bridgets legendary jammy blobs.

P.S. Here at BordersEcoFlowers, we are good at keeping secrets! So for a real surprise gift, you can just drop her off at the door and we will take care of the rest. Excuse the pun, but “mum’s the word!”

£40 per person. Each workshop lasts approximately two and a half hours.
